Kurtis was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and grew up in Pocatello, Idaho. He is the youngest of 8 children and was inspired by his business professor father to both study economics and to also attend the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, Utah. Kurtis received his Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from the University of Utah in 2003 (not so coincidentally, Kurtis is an avid Utes fan).
Before his undergraduate degree, Kurtis served a two-year Spanish-speaking mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Kurtis still speaks, reads and writes Spanish. His ability to do so has helped him guide his Spanish-speaking clients successfully through the legal system countless times.
Due, in part, to his routine exposure to individuals needing advocacy during his LDS mission, Kurtis was further driven to extend his education into legal studies. He was already intent on practicing in the area of personal injury. Kurtis attended Syracuse University College of Law in New York and graduated in 2006. Again, as a result, Kurtis is now a loyal Syracuse Orange fan and an oft-suffering Buffalo Bills fan.
While still attending law school, Kurtis worked as a law clerk for a well-known Las Vegas personal injury law firm where he was exposed to high volume personal injury cases of every variety. It was here where he excelled as a trial attorney. He litigated and resolved thousands of personal injury claims. Kurtis later joined another well-known Las Vegas personal injury law firm in 2012 where he furthered his knowledge and experience resulting in over $5 Million in total recovery for his clients. Combined in his years of experience, Kurtis has recovered more than $20 Million for his clients.
Kurtis has also achieved the highest rank in the Boy Scouts of America – Eagle Scout. He enjoys volunteering in various community projects. His favorite so far being a Las Vegas Elementary Career Day Speaker where he was playfully rendered speechless with hard-hitting questions such as “Have you ever killed anyone?” and “Do you wear glasses in court?”
In his spare time, Kurtis wears his USA soccer jersey with pride, loves spending time with his fellow attorney wife, Amy, and their three adorable children.
